As a dj, Callerioʼs signature sound showcases a blend of improvisation, technical wizardry, and a crate that spans nearly two decades. Drawing upon influences from Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest and Frank Sinatra, Wally knows where he wants his focus to be: the vocals. Callerio explains, “I want people to walk away whistling a melody or singing a vocal that sticks with them.” And if youʼre one of those who have had the opportunity to experience it firsthand, you can attest to his ability not only make your feet move, but your ears smile.
As a producer, Wally challenges and stretches the boundaries of musical construction. Experiments in phrasing and selection are some of the key ingredients that produce the creative dissonance that is signature of his sound. Wally explains, “I am trying more musical, crossover house while trying to keep that underground feel. I donʼt want my music to be limited to just 8-bar phrases. I like to experiment, break some rules and make the listener think about what they are hearing.” And with over 20 years under his belt, his diversification goes unmatched; his tracks have been known not only to be enjoyed on the dancefloor through massive sound, but also in listenerʼs homes while enjoying a lovely dinner.
2012 marks the iconic labelʼs 15-year anniversary. Whatʼs next? “For one, a number of new changes...” Callerio remarks, “ I donʼt try to predict the future of house, I just try to give it my imagination and push with my music. I try to inspire people into making and playing the right stuff.” Although these changes remain to be seen, if the past is any indicator of what to expect, one can only be sure that Callero will have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Whether it’s spinning alone, at a bar for 15 people, or at an event for 1500 people, Karl is simply DJ at heart that enjoys it all. “Yeah, there’s nothing like creating a vibe and connecting with a receptive crowd … but there’s also something special about connecting with the music alone.” In the early days, Karl was content listening to mix tapes, collecting records, and spinning at home. However, it wasn’t long before others took notice. With plenty of encouragement from others, he began playing out on a regular basis. 10+ years DJ experience, a creative mixing style, and on-point track selection have now taken him to DJ gigs in 17 states in the US and have earned him an ever-growing booking schedule - including several residencies in his hometown of Chicago and beyond. Although he insists he is not a promoter, Karl has had much success throwing events as well. Highlights include work with the Epiphic collective (hundreds of regular and one-off events) and 3+ years of Grizzled/Sizzled at Chicago’s Lava Lounge (monthly party co-hosted with The Sound Republic). Currently on the web, Karl hosts 2 internet radio shows: “Bunchlox Radio” every Tuesday [8-9PM Central on www.chicagohousefm] and “Sunday Brunchlox” every 4th Sunday [12-2PM Central on www.myhouse-yourhouse.net].

Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, Matt Mason and Rick Nielsen, better known as the Corduroy Mavericks, are quickly smashing the stereotype that the Midwest is lacking in prolific house music producers. With their quirky range of jazzy, soulful, techy, deep and funky house, New York, Chicago, the West Coast and other dance meccas have been put on notice via the sonic enthusiasm of a pair of Corduroy-loving trailblazers from the Bluegrass State.
Uriah West
Audio Indika
Kontroldjs.com
Denver, CO.
Uriah West started Djing in 2002 at the age of 22 although his love for house music began 2 years earlier. He was schooled about underground house music while going to school in Kansas City after meeting Joey C, David D, and Chris D of Deep Fix Records. After moving to Denver in 2002, Uriah started mixing records in his basement for hours at a time while recording most of his sessions. Within a year Uriah was dragging his turntables to any house party that would have him. In 2003, Uriah began his residency at Denver’s premier after-hours club 2AM, playing several nights a week until late 2006. While holding down his residency, he began playing at Denver’s signature clubs, The Church and Vinyl and also regularly played in Kansas City at one of the biggest underground house nights at the time, Frisky. Uriah has played along-side some of the best DJ’s/Producers in the industry to include Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, Diz, Derrick Carter and Heather to name a few. In 2006, Uriah and production partner Ejay began Bump Shop Music, showcasing top-quality tracks from respected producers like the Sound Diggers, Jonn Hawley, Matthew Brian and Evan Rhodes to name a few. Uriah has since started the 5280 Music label as a solo project. Between the two labels, DJ’s from across the globe including DJ Heather, Scud Bloom, Joey Youngman, and John Larner have been heard playing the Bump Shop Music and 5280 sounds. In late 2007, Uriah and Ejay began collaborating with Jack Roldan to bring house music back to the underground in Denver’s warehouse district, late-night style. With strong local line-ups and the occasional headliner, Uriah West and his posse are quickly become a staple in Denver’s underground house music community.
